Full Count

I taught my son the basics of playing baseball. Growing up in his earliar years, his father’s work was very demanding. I was extremely thankful for the tomboy still in me when it was time for this child to learn sports. I played softball and I’ll be honest; batting was not my strong suit. My goal was just to get to first base. Once I was there, I could steal my way home. I was excellent at judging timing, running and sliding. These also became my son’s strength in the game. I was proud to always hear the other team yelling, “watch him!”, once he was on base. The feeling still melts my heart as a mother. Yes, that was my son.

The most stressful position to be in when playing this game is simple. It’s pure hell when you’re at bat, it’s the last inning, it’s a tied score, there’s two outs, and it’s a full count. I’ve been here a few times. Your team is cheering, the haters are booing, and the coach is screaming. You can hear it all yet, it’s dead silence. All you can hear is your own voice inside. The surge of success versus failure takes over your entire being. The thing you didn’t know as a child in this predicament is that you will feel this way many times in your adult life. The difference is, as an adult, it’s not just a game. Nobody is giving you water ice saying nice try if you strike out.

My son has been in that situation. The stress of it being at full count. He heard the same things as well. What I adored most is he always looked up at his father and I. We were probably the only two people that went from yelling and screaming to dead silence with him. Most of the time, I would crouch down almost as if to say, “I’m with you”. His father would give the nod and that was it. All we could do was hold our breath.

How many of you have felt or are feeling this kind of pressure? Your leg is shaking, the anxiety is building and it seems the outcome of the entire situation falls on your decision with that one ball. You are at full count. You hear your friends cheering, your haters booing and that one person screaming what to do yet; your world has turned silent. And if you really think about it, who caused what feels like an eternity of hell? Not you! You’ve been on the bench doing your part. Yet, here you are. Of course the “coach” thinks he knows it all because he’s the expert. And let’s get real, the “team” cheering you on, will turn and blame you for the entire game even though they played it as well. The ending here is clearly black and white. You win or you lose. But the situation has much grey. In life, for some odd reason, only you see that grey in the middle of the play. Everyone else sees it as black and white.

My advice to you is to stay still for a moment. Listen to your inner voice. Nobody else is at bat in that moment. It’s just you and that ball coming full force. When it gets close enough, you’ll have to make the decision. Don’t be afraid to make that call in your head. You can’t always win but, don’t be afraid to make that decision. Have faith in yourself and challenge that weekness. Some of my favorite words to warriors, “do it scared”. You can be afraid to fail, but make a choice! Chose to hear and trust yourself in these moments. Because, ten years from now, you’re going to look back and realize one important thing. No matter who was at that game, nobody went as hard for you as YOU!

Show and Tell

💥SHOW AND TELL💥

The words show and tell are as catchy as the newest trend with Meniere’s and Vertigo warriors. Many are attempting to strip away from prescriptions. Fear of long term side affects and lack of insurance coverage is truly taking its toll. Although the ritual of managing medical conditions through natural resources has been around for decades, the subject of supplements has become the most popular of conversations.

There is one issue with recommending products. What works for one warrior, may have little or no affect for another. However, Supplements seem to be a huge part of warriors lives in order to maintain a quality life for them. Like medication, it is all trial and error. Hearing and seeing testimonials opens the doors to exploring natural remedies for symptoms relating to Meniere’s Disease and Vertigo.

I ran a post in my 1.8k global Private Facebook Group, Meniere’s and Vertigo Without Borders, (tap link to join) curious as to what supplements/natural products warriors were using to seek relief. Here are their testimonials: (All products are linked for purchasing by just tapping the highlighted words or photos)

Let’s start with CBD, then natural supplements:

Some doctors will actually recommend certain supplements due to side affects of medications. Always, consult your doctors before trying anything new. The Glimmer of Gold

Even the most inspirational people struggle with life. The truth is though, we have trouble following our own guidance that we offer to others. In the last few months, my life has just taken way too many hits. I knew my hearing was declining from the stress and so many small menieres attacks. Being completely deaf in my left ear and only 30 percent hearing in the right; I was devestated when I sat down to review my health with my specialist. I am not his worst case however, I am by far the most progressive. One big attack and basically this disease can take what’s left of my hearing. No stress is the prescription. I never laughed so hard through sorrowed tears in my life as I sat in my car processing the news. So many things went through my head. He must not know I’m an Eagles fan. {giggles}.

I had finally fell into a deep sleep last night. First time in over a week. I was awoken by the barking of my three pitbulls. I sat up slowly and listened. When I heard the alpha growl in between barks, I knew someone was either right outside or inside my home already. Dan had taught me a long time ago how to protect this home and my children. Living in the 2nd deadliest city per capita, it’s something we went over many times. I remember telling him that if it ever happened, I would surely freeze and forget something important. He told me, “if it happens, you won’t even think. Your body will respond without even going through the steps I taught you.” He was right. My adrenaline kicked in and there was no second guessing myself or my trusted friend in my hands. Even when I saw the glimmer of gold fly up in the air, I didn’t panic. Subconsciously I knew what that meant. “Now you have 8 attempts instead of 9”.

You can breathe now. Apparently our water authority does maintence on the hydrants at 2am in the morning. Three doggie treats later, there was no going back to sleep. Not only does the fear you held in kick up full force; you start to think real clear about your life. Piece by piece, all the problems I have been facing, didn’t seem so overwhelming. I wrote them all down and one by one, I made a decision on what I wanted. I wrote the issue, the resolution, the goal, and realistic expectations on how to execute each one. I may be exhausted right now but, I feel at peace with myself again.

As I now sit here with my coffee writing, I think of Rebecca. She joined our facebook group, Meniere’s and Vertigo Without Borders, a few months ago and reached out to me. Her Meniere’s Disease had really turned it’s ugly head however, I sensed something more. I eventually found out my intuition was right. She was in a mentally, verbally and emotionally abusive marriage. We became very close until the beginning of August when I had to place my attention elsewhere to prioritize. The last thing I heard privately from her was, “I have $14 dollars in the bank and I’m sleeping on a couch in another house. I’m going to do a Gina Marie”. Rebecca posted in our group a few weeks later. She had packed up what she could, found what she needed and fled from Alabama. She is now safe and happy on a beach in Florida. Do you realize how much courage that must have taken? She saw a dream and she just left everything and went for it! She had no idea, when she jumped off that ledge, whether she would fall on her face or finally fly free. She believed in herself, she saw her chance and she took it. She didn’t “pull a Gina Marie”. She “pulled a Rebecca” and I couldn’t be more proud of her.

Life is about chances and decisions. I know a couple right now and it blows my mind that so many people stay in places they know they don’t belong. She’s happy to stay with a man who tells another woman he loves her, knowing her manipulation made him stay. He is staying planning to sell things because it’s cheaper to keep her. He’s also staying with a woman who cheated, lied and made him feel guilty enough to stay using their son as a pawn. I know their ending. Its ugly and painful. One of them should chose reality and happiness. Maybe one, or both, should “pull a Rebecca“.

What’s the point here? Let me bring this all together for you. Being scared like I was this morning puts many things into perspective. If it wasn’t the water company, and I didn’t make it; how did I spend my last day here in this crazy world? Sad, defeated, worried, and heart broken is the way I would have gone out. I’ve survived too much for that to ever be the case. Make every single day count. Look for solutions instead of drowning in your problems. Chase your dreams, not people who can’t see what they have in you. Believe in yourself instead of the twisted reality of others. Build on truth and honesty of who you are and what you want because that’s where your happiness is waiting. Be willing at any moment, to sacrafice where you are, for where you truly want to be. If you want to fly, you have to let go. Do exactly that. #frsj

Dear David

Friendships are pretty odd if you really think about it. It’s like we pick a human and say, “yes, I’ll try this one”. {giggling). Every time we decide to try one out, it’s rolling the dice. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don’t.

I’m sure by now, as a vertigo, menieres or life warrior, you have found out who your true friends are. You may still have some disappointments coming your way though. It’s called life and it’s not always fair.

One thing I have learned is that there are different types of friends. Depending on your problem, depends on what friend you are going to call. You have options: the supportive friend, the make me laugh friend, the tell me it like it is friend, and that positive energy friend. When you pick up the phone, there’s a method to the madness of what contact you’re going to push. If you’re lucky enough to still have that childhood friend like I do, you call them when you’re dead wrong knowing they will make it right.

When you think of soulmates, you usually assume they are lovers. However, I’ve heard of something called friendship soulmates. No doubt in my mind that this concept does exist. My best friend of over thirty (30) years is definitely my soulmate. You can call them for any of the aforementioned reasons I stated without fear of judgement. Time is not a factor though. I am blessed enough to have two (2) friendship soulmates.

Dave private messaged me a little over a year ago. He was recently diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease at the time and found me posting inspiration in a support group. I was happy I could give him advice and some hope as he was struggling. Neither one of us had any clue that we had just started a journey together. A pathway of friendship and eventually leadership was unforseen. We now are partners/administrators to the private support groups: Meniere’s and Vertigo Without Borders, Partners to Meniere’s and Vertigo Without Borders, and Meniere’s and Vertigo with Christian Borders. He has helped me with my personal open Facebook page, The Balancing Act and is my techincal support. But most importantly, he has become my soulmate friend. No matter the day, the hour or the issue, Dave is there for me. He has loyalty, integrity and honor in everything he does. He worries about me more than he worries about himself. Even though he has sleep issues, he will stay awake with one eye open if he knows I’m struggling. Every once in awhile, when he can’t sleep, he sends me a short letter. The letters inspire me to keep my head up and continue to help others. I honestly feel like I saved Dave once and now he saves me always. We are so much alike that his wife believes we are somehow related and just don’t know it. We are always on the same page with our thoughts and finish each others sentences. He is definite proof that platonic soulmates exist.

Life doesn’t guarentee tomorrow. You should take a moment to evaluate your friendships and thank a friend today. I’m sorry but, it’s not always about you. Today, make it about them. Great friends are few and far between. If you have a “Dave” in your life, you are truly blessed with an amazing gift that keeps on giving. Reciprocate the thoughtfulness of someone today. Truly I tell you, it not only makes them feel appreciated but, it brings a certain type of joy you have never experienced.

Dear David,

I wrote this article in honor of our friendship and also to inspire others; which has always been our mission. True friends do not try to calm your storm. They sail your ship until the storm is over. You are that friend and I will forever be thankful for the impact you have made in my life. Thank you for taking part in my journey.

Your fbff,

Gina

Create Your Space

Currently I am battling a matter in my life that truly has tested every fiber of my being. I am literally dealing with it one minute at a time as the hits are coming too fast to even duck from the impact. Unfortunately for me, and for all of us sometimes, there are some negative people that we just have to handle as removing them from our space is not an option. The best advice I can give, if you are in a similar situation, is the advice that was given to me yesterday. No matter what, do not lose who you are in the battle. Their goal is to break you down to their level because it is the only way they know how to beat you and get what they want. Remind yourself constantly who you are and stay focused on holding your boundaries. If you don’t, you will literally end up in the dark place you are attempting to bring them out of. You will become uncentered, angry, lashing, insulting, and ultimately lack the very empathy you are trying to help them feel for their actions. You can never be willing to sacrifice who you are for what they have become. Remember, DNA just creates a title to the people in relation to you. Their sense of entitlement needs to be stripped and that title needs to be earned back. I am unable to promise you that your fight with and for them will change their path. But I can promise you that you will lose yourself in the process if you don’t hold the line. In the end, they will either respect it, or figuratively speaking; hang themselves with it. Don’t get tangled in the process.

Let’s finish up with some helpful hints. Meditation is an affective way to release stress. Many members of my group,Meniere’s and Vertigo Without Borders, have reported that their vertigo and tinnitus has improved using this method daily. Life warriors have also recommended this option. Keeping yourself balanced is key both physically and emotionally. I know that some people actually use a room in their home as their personal and private space to meditate. They create their own unique atmosphere to deal with all the hits life has thrown and will throw at them on a daily basis. Floor chairs, Natural Himalayan Salt Tea Lights, Fountains with soothing sounds, and Incense are just some of the items I’ve seen in the beautiful pictures sent to me by individuals that use this technique.

I meditate every morning before I start my day. As I leave my meditation area, I walk by my favorite spot in my home. I decorated it myself. It’s special to me and reminds me exactly who I am. Across the chest is a gift from my friend, Dave Giugno. It’s a healing shaw. It was made with the praying hands of women and sent with friendship love. It reminds me of peace. Then, I have the flower pot from my house growing up. It reminds me to always remember where I got my loyalty. Also, I placed the amazing book, The Color of Broken (in stock). The author is one of our members, Julieann Wallace. One of the characters has Meniere’s Disease and the profits from this book goes to Meniere’s Research. It reminds me of support. I recommend this read to any book lover.

I also placed the decoration I broke during a very difficult time in my life. A time when I was disgarded of and betrayed. It reminds me to never give up on myself. My mother’s rosary stays across it so I remember to always forgive the past and walk towards the future.

On the chair is my mother’s house coat from when I was a kid and teen. Older women will know what that is more likely than my younger followers. It reminds me of strength. Last, my hat. I was raised country in the city. Go figure. It reminds me that what others think of me is truly none of my business.

At the end of the day, you answer to yourself. Think of it like your check book and always make sure your accounting adds up to the balance.

The Color of Broken (in stock)

The Mirror Affect

Who are you going to believe? The mirror or the eyes of a person who attempts to balance your worth?

A strong individual needs validation from nobody. The key word here in self esteem, is self! You must love your “self”, believe in your “self”, have confidence in your “self”. Nobody can give that to you. If you depend on that, it can be taken away just as quickly as it was given.

Life, menieres, vertigo, and chronic illness will all try to beat you down to your knees. Negative and insecure people will try to base your value on their own twisted reality of who they truly want to be. Oddly, it’s called the mirror affect. It’s never even been about you. Whatever evil words or thoughts they spat towards you, it’s actually their thoughts about their own short comings.

Your happiness with yourself is your choice. Don’t ever give someone else that kind of power over you. Surround yourself with support and encouragement but, do not depend on it to be your core source in believing who you are.

Need a little arrogance to help you change your thinking? “Love me or hate me, both are in my favor. If you love me, I’ll always be in your heart. If you hate me, I’ll always be in your mind” ~Shakespeare

Reset Your Table

In September of 2016, the big social media memes and celebrity news was Jennifer. Well, it was based off of the Brad and Angelina break up. I really wished everyone would have just left Jennifer out of it. I know all the memes were humor at Brad for her. I don’t know her but; I know life, love and betrayal. Honestly, I promise you, she didn’t care at all about the news break. Want to know why? Because she is a strong woman who survived the deepest pain and made it to a place not to be connected to the cause of it ever again.

I can promise you she wasn’t laughing, crying, waiting or thinking of it as karma. She reached a place of peace a long time before that. It was not Brad, Angelina and Jen. It’s was just that couple that was built on lies, bound to fail and did. That’s the circus show. That’s the attention.

A woman at true peace knows how to fill her table. She learns that if you are not bringing anything to it, you’re not going to be sitting at it. She will hold her boundaries and move forward. The only people she will allow at that table are the ones contributing productively in her life. She does not make anyone a priority who looks at her as an option.

Jennifer didn’t need a meme; she had something better. She’s had power because she let go and valued herself. He made his bed and she reset her table. At the end of the day, she sat on honesty, loyality and honor to herself. Do exactly that.

Walk It Scared

Fear is an emotion that can absolutely paralyze you both physically and mentally. Whether it’s menieres, vertigo or life itself, we all have experienced this horrible emotion.

The tightrope of life takes balance. Even if you’re walking it with vertigo, you must stay balanced within. With anything in life, the borders for error are so small. One step too soon or too late, even one second too fast or slow; we might not catch our balance. But, the netting we need is everywhere under us. Don’t be afraid to fail. Be excited that you can succeed. Make a decision about what you truly want, then go get it. As you walk the rope, have confidence in yourself. If you stop in your tracks scared, do it scared!

There were so many times in my life that I was petrified what would become of me and the turns my journey took so suddenly. It took time after those hits to regain my balance. Mentally, emotionally and spiritually; I stayed focused. As I’ve said before, life has no guarentees. It has promised you nothing. It’s up to you decide how you’re going to walk that tightrope. Stop spending time blaming everyone who hurt you, took you for granite and abondened the dreams you had. They are not responsible for your happiness. She who says she can and she who says she can’t are both right. Which decision are you willing to make?

I’ll be honest, you’re not always going to win. You’re not always going to make it across without a fall. I mean that figuratively for life warriors and literally for vertigo warriors. I can promise you though that fear will not stop failure from happening. It will however, prevent success. Whatever challenges you are facing, look ahead at the goal and do it scared. That is exactly how winning is done.

Finally, do not compromise yourself for anyone. Embrace who you are. One foot in front of the other. Balance and focus are key. Always remember, at the end of the day, nobody is going to go as hard for you as YOU.

Letting Go

My daughter and partner bump heads much of the time. I tried to figure out for years now what is so different about their petsonalities that causes this friction. He is very good to her and she will go to bat for him in a heartbeat should someone else attempt to speak an ill word against him. He has very high expectations of her and she will hurt his feelings in a drop of a dime. They get disappointed in each other very easily. Today, I thought outside of the box. It’s not what’s different about them; it’s what’s the same. They both hold on too tight and find it difficult to just let go.

Their journeys are nothing alike yet very similiar. They’ve both been hurt and disappointed by people they love. When I truly examine their hearts, I see duck tape instead of true mending. That one person in their life that was suppose to guide them and make them feel protected, are people they now yearn for their approval. This has developed a protection mode in their personalities. What neither understand is that holding on hurts more than letting go. The lightbulb went on when I realized how many times a day I say, “would you just let it go!”

I know many of you have been there. Whether it’s betrayal, abandonment, missing your life before illness, your job, finances, loss of relationships; your holding on to the memory of things already gone. I can gaurentee that holding on causes more damage inside of you than just letting on. The scars and bruises will never heal until you process this concept. You can only put so much duck tape on something broken before it gives way and every emotion burst out at once. Letting go is never easy. But, it takes more energy and effort to hold on. Where can you possibly go in your future if your grasp is completely tightened on your past?

There’s only one way to get the justice you seek from a past that hurt you. Let go.

Hide and Seek

INSPIRATION (the ending…):

Questions I’ve been asked in the last year from my closed group, Meniere’s and Vertigo Without Borders:

What’s your exact diagnosis?

My answer: Meniere’s Disease Bilateral, Fibromyalgia, Crohn’s Disease, Positional Vestibular Disorder, high BP, 6mm Lipoma center brain, 3x skin cancer survivor. (I forgot to write diagnosis warrior lol) 🙌

Are you a writer?

My answer: I believe in myself and what I’ve accomplished. I’ve been published twice for poetry and will start working on my book this October (2018) about inspiration and positive thinking. ❤

Why do you do your hair and makeup?

My answer: to keep pissing off my Meniere’s Disease. 😂

How do you do it?

My answer: one moment, one step, and one day at a time. 😎

Then there’s the one private message from another group member, as I post in several groups. “Are you seeking attention with all your selfies and posts-nothing personal?” (I’m not even kidding) 😩

My answer: I’m okay with who I am, where I’ve been, the things I’ve fought, the negativity I have battled and the 17 years I have endured. My group has inspired me and feels like my second family. It’s here that we can vent, cry, scream and not be judged or criticized. You can’t get more personal than that. I put my face out in hopes that people will post theirs and I can see other warriors from all ends of the world. Building confidence back is not easy. It’s a hide and seek game for some warriors. My goal is to help them find themselves.

💥Ending point: If we all listened to that one negative voice instead of our own and being here for each other; we’d all be in pretty bad shape. One voice can make or break someone. I’m glad I’ve come to the realization that I’m not made of glass.

You have come way too far in this journey of life to be that fragile. They can only break you if you allow them. Never let anyone bring you down to that level. You’re better than that. Get yourself off the clearance rack and back in the showcase where you belong.

This is just a quick list that I was able to gather from reading what warriors had to say. It’s about time the real sufferers get their voice and opinions, from their own experience, out to others. I know without a doubt that my prescriptions are necessary to maintain my health. However, I do take supplements as well. Some doctors will actually recommend certain supplements due to side affects of medications. Always, consult your doctors before trying anything new.
